Reliable solutions for community information in Hood County.
At Protect Hood County, we are dedicated to protecting the air, water, wildlife and residents of hood county. Our goal is to provide comprehensive information services that empower residents to make informed decisions while understanding the threats that face our county.
POLLUTION! Constellation Energy has applied for a new Air Pollution Permit—Permit No. 175173—for yet another gas-fired facility at the Wolf Hollow power complex. This would add a third major gas plant to a site already home to two large industrial power stations and a crypto mine. We, the residents of Hood County, say ENOUGH. Why We’re Opposed: • Air Quality Threats: This new permit would increase emissions of nitrogen oxides (NOx), particulate matter, sulfur dioxide, and hazardous air pollutants such as formaldehyde and hexane. • Health Impacts: Increased pollution puts our families, children, and seniors at risk for asthma, cardiovascular disease, and other respiratory issues. • Environmental Degradation: The cumulative impact of three gas plants, a crypto mine, and battery storage facilities threatens our air, land, and water. • Industrial Overload: Our rural community is being turned into an industrial zone without meaningful input or consent from residents. • Modeling Games: Constellation relies on air quality models based on monitors over 60 miles away—not real measurements from the communities next to these smokestacks. What You Can Do: • Join us at the Contested Case Hearing on May 20th at 10 AM (virtual via Zoom). • Attend the Townhall on May 4th at 5 PM at Mambrino Baptist Church, 1625 N FM 199, Granbury, TX 76049. • Visit www.protecthoodcounty.com for updates and ways to take action. Together, we can protect our land, our lungs, and our rights.
A Small Victory!!
Last Friday, Constellation Energy informed the Public Utility Commission (PUC) that it’s backing out its Wolf Hollow III plant, located in Granbury, from the Texas Energy Fund. In a letter to the PUC, a representative says, “Constellation is unable to determine with certainty the overall costs associated with the project due to the uncertain timing of the issuance of an air permit for the project…” In other words, Constellation is dropping out of the Texas Energy Fund because of community pushback from Protect Hood County.
Through a long campaign over the last year, the people of Granbury have repeatedly declared that we do not want another gas plant in our backyard. On February 13th, a group of Granbury residents successfully petitioned the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality to grant a contested case hearing which delayed the issuance of an air permit critical for construction on Wolf Hollow III. This delay has cost Constellation Energy millions of dollars.
This is great news. But the fight isn’t over yet. Even without funding from the Texas Energy Fund, this plant could still be built—Constellation says its “withdrawal from the loan program does not impact the viability of the Wolf Hollow III project.”
This means that now, more than ever, we must continue to demand that this plant not be built. Right now, Protect Hood County is raising funds for legal representation for the contested case hearing. If you want to put a full stop to the Wolf Hollow III plant, please consider supporting.
